Creating Thriving, Livable Communities

Unless young people see opportunity where they live, they won't stay, and that’s one of the biggest modern threats to coffee production. Young people are leaving farms for city life in record numbers. Coffee farms are increasingly being used for other crops, or being replaced by urban developments.

One of the best ways we can combat this trend is by helping strengthen infrastructure in traditional farming communities, and ensuring that standards of living continue to rise. That’s why we carefully listen to the needs of community members, and work to support them in their efforts to improve their communities–whether it’s helping to build schools or provide nutrition programs for children, delivering health care to remote rural communities, providing water treatment systems to producers, or creating agricultural inputs such as fertilizers tailor-made to local soil conditions. Our projects span the spectrum, and fulfill each community’s self-identified needs.
